“Virtual Visits to the Philippines’ Museums”
Museums and Galleries Month and National Indigenous Peoples Month
October 2020

      

     The Philippine Consulate General, Chicago  is one with the Philippine nation in celebrating the country’s rich cultural heritage through the Museums and Galleries Month and the National Indigenous Peoples Month this October.

      The Philippines has a rich cultural heritage that is cultivated and preserved in our various historical sites and museums. While the pandemic has limited the opportunities to visit and see the cultural hubs, the DFA brings the experience of the Philippine museums to your homes through the virtual tours to our museums in the Philippines!

 

        The Philippine Consulate General, Chicago, through the Department of Foreign Affairs Office of Strategic Communications and Research – Cultural Diplomacy Division,  brings the experience of visiting a museum in the Philippines with “Museo Kordilyera Virtual Tour: From the Mountains of the Philippines, Into Your Homes”  which will be available on the DFA platforms from 26 to 31 October 2020 only.

       Join us for the virtual launch on 26 October 2020, 3:00 p.m. (PH Time).

Ateneo Art Gallery

      The Ateneo Art Gallery, located inside the Ateneo De Manila University, houses modern art since its establishment in 1960.

      The virtual tour gives viewers a glimpse of its exhibits inside and outside of the museum. From the indoor galleries' "Love It and Leave It," "The Print Folio," "Ateneo Art Awards 2018," and "The World According to Charlie Co", to the outdoor installation "Inscapes."

Filipinas Heritage Library

      The Filipinas Heritage Library, which is housed in the sixth floor of the Ayala Museum, boasts of a collection focusing on Philippine history, culture, and arts.

      In the virtual tour of the library, online exhibits on the Philippine experience during World War II may be viewed.

Ayala Museum

         Ayala Museum, a private museum of the Ayala Foundation, houses exhibits on Filipino culture, history, and art in its six-storey building in Makati, Philippines.

         The online resource site of Ayala Museum showcases some of its virtual exhibits such as "Gold in Our Veins" by Mark Lewis Lim Higgins and "The Art of the Malong," an exhibit on Filipino textiles.

Museo de Intramuros

      Intramuros, considered one of the most historic sites in Manila as it used to be the seat of power during the Spanish occupation of the Philippines, is a National Historical Landmark. Currently administered by the Intramuros Administration, this historical site is also home to Museo de Intramuros located at the reconstructed San Ignacio Church.

      Through this virtual tour, viewers can know more about Intramuros and also see the extensive collection of religious artifacts dating back to the 16th and 19th centuries.

Presidential Museum and Library

     The Presidential Museum and Library is the primary office within the Office of the President tasked to preserve, manage, and promote the history and heritage of the Philippine Presidency.

     In this virtual tour, the public can know more about the history of the Malacañan Palace and view the curated exhibits which include various furniture, artwork, memorabilia and other items.

National Museum of the Philippines

       The National Museum of the Philippines is the government organization that operates the national museums of the country including the National Museum of Fine Arts, National Museum of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History, and National Planetarium.

       In this virtual tour of the National Museum of Fine Arts, you can marvel at the masterpieces of Filipino artists Juan Luna (Spoliarium), Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo (The Assassination of Governor Bustamante and His Son), and Carlos "Botong" V. Francisco (Filipino Struggles Through History), among others.

Virtual Visits to the Philippines’ Museums
Featuring a Special Tour of Museo Kordilyera on 26-31 October 2020

      Every day from 2 to 7 October, the Philippine Consulate General, Chicago, through the DFA Office of Strategic Communications – Cultural Diplomacy Division, will feature one Philippine museum where you can tour virtually and on the 26th of October 2020, we invite you to join us in the opening event of our virtual tour of Museo Kordilyera!

“Museo Kordilyera Virtual Tour: From the Mountains of the Philippines, Into Your Homes” will be available on the DFA platforms from 26 to 31 October 2020 only.
