Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano received Mr. Sangwoo Hong, the Republic of Korea’s newly arrived Consul General in Chicago, at the Philippine Consulate on 21 April 2026. Consul General Hong assumed his post last month.

During the call, the two officials recalled their respective previous assignments in Sydney, where they first met and had the opportunity to collaborate, as well as the areas of cooperation between their posts. They also exchanged views on their diaspora communities in Chicago, underscoring the importance of sustained engagement to effectively serve their nationals. The discussion further covered the activities of the Chicago Consular Corps and explored opportunities for future engagements, including possible joint initiatives and participation in diplomatic events in the U.S. Midwest.

Prior to his posting in Chicago, Consul General Hong served as Ambassador for International Relations of Gyeonggi Province. END
