The Philippine Consulate General, represented by Cultural Officer Mary Joy Duran-Mortel, joined the PHL delegation, organized by the Filipino-American Community in Skokie, during the Opening Ceremony of the Skokie Festival of Cultures held on 17 May 2025 at Oakton Park, Skokie, IL. The two-day event is a celebration of global cultures, offering a variety of cultural performances, traditional dance and music, food and beverages, and games for attendees of all
ages.
The ceremony commenced with a parade of 30 delegations of countries showcasing their respective national costumes. Skokie Mayor Ann Tennes formally opened the festival and visited the delegations’ booths.
The PHL booth featured various Filipiniana items, including Rizaliana paraphernalia. Mr. Fred de Asis, a Filipino-American artist from the Kutbayin Art Movement, oriented those visiting the booth on the ancient Baybayin.END
