CHICAGO, 10 September 2026 – Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano joined fellow members of the Chicago Consular Corps at a roundtable discussion and reception hosted by the City of Chicago and World Business Chicago on 10 September 2026 at the Union League Club of Chicago.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson facilitated the roundtable, which brought together Consuls General and representatives of foreign missions in Chicago for a discussion on opportunities for greater collaboration between the City and Chicago’s international community.

The discussions covered a broad range of issues affecting global cities and their communities, including cultural and economic development, youth and workforce opportunities, public safety, sustainability, and the important role of diaspora communities in strengthening connections between Chicago and the world.

During the discussion, Consul General Diano proposed exploring a City-supported platform that would make it easier for members of the Consular Corps and their respective communities to bring their National Day celebrations and other major cultural programs to the broader Chicago public. Mayor Johnson welcomed the proposal, noting its alignment with Chicago’s efforts to strengthen the city’s cultural connections and engagement with its diverse international communities.

The roundtable provided an opportunity for members of the Consular Corps and the City of Chicago to exchange perspectives on shared urban challenges, promising practices from around the world, and areas where Chicago could learn from and collaborate with the countries and cities represented by the diplomatic community.
