Photo Release

The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, represented by Consul Melvin Almonguera and Consular Assistant Dennis Marnilego, joined the 48th Anniversary of Peace Day in Chicago on September 21, 2026, at Daley Plaza in downtown Chicago.

The event brought together members of the Chicago Consular Corps, Chicago Public Schools students, community organizations, and members of the public in a collective observance dedicated to peace and intercultural understanding.

Representing the Filipino community in Chicago, Mr. Amando Boncales and Ms. Janice Delima served as the Philippine flagbearers during the World Peace Flag Ceremony. The ceremony featured a procession of national flags, with the audience calling for “peace” for each country represented. The Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago was also in attendance in support of the event, represented by Mr. Ruben Salazar.

Organized by The Peace School and the Chicago Build the Peace Committee, Peace Day in Chicago has been observed since 1978. The event brings together people of different ages, backgrounds, faiths, and cultures to focus their thoughts, wishes, and prayers on peace for the world. END
