The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, represented by Consul Ella Karina Mitra-Yeager, participated as a panelist in a Community Fireside Chat organized by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Wisconsin (UPAA-W) on 3 October 2026 at the Philippine Center in Greenfield, Wisconsin.

Joining Consul Mitra-Yeager on the panel were Dr. Juan Fernandez, Associate Professor of Southeast Asian History at University of Wisconsin–Madison; and Ms. Marianne Nacanaynay, a PhD student in Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

The discussion centered on the animated film Forgotten Island and its broader themes of Filipino representation in mainstream media, cultural identity, and the portrayal of Filipino stories and experiences. The panelists and members of the audience also exchanged views on the importance of authentic cultural representation, the experiences of Filipinos and Filipino Americans across generations, and the role of film and other forms of popular culture in promoting greater awareness and appreciation of Philippine culture.

The fireside chat was moderated by Ms. Floresa Balondo of UPAA-W.
