The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, represented by Consul Melvin Almonguera and Assistance-to-Nationals Officer Atty. Mark Arinquin, attended the Joint Lions Celebration for Filipino American History Month on 03 October 2026 at Allegra Banquets in Schiller Park, Illinois.
Organized by the Franklin Park Manila Lions Club, led by Club President Joy Manuel and event chairperson Pauline Abadilla, the gathering brought together club leaders, members, and guests to recognize the contributions of Filipino-American past district governors, charter presidents, and distinguished members. The occasion was graced by Mayor Barrett Pedersen of Franklin Park, Filipino-American Ben Zoleta, current Governor of Lions Clubs International District 1-A, and Bob Block, Past International Director of Lions Clubs International.
On behalf of the Consulate General, Consul Almonguera paid tribute to the Filipino-American Lions honored at the celebration, including the charter presidents, distinguished charter members, and past district governors whose years of service and leadership helped establish and strengthen the Filipino presence in Lions over the years. He noted that their contributions have become an important part of the history and continuing presence of Filipino Americans in the Midwest. END
