The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, represented by Consul Melvin Almonguera, Consul Ella Karina Mitra, and Assistance-to-Nationals Officer Atty. Mark Arinquin, joined the Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago (FAHSC) in celebrating its 40th anniversary during a Gala Reception held on 03 October 2026 at the Trickster Cultural Center in Schaumburg, Illinois. The celebration was led by FAHSC leaders Mr. Ruben Salazar and Ms. Ginger Leopoldo.
The reception recognized FAHSC’s founders, members, partners, sponsors, and volunteers whose contributions have sustained the organization’s work of preserving and sharing Filipino-American history over the past four decades.
On behalf of the Consulate General, Consul Almonguera highlighted FAHSC’s 40-year contribution to preserving the stories and history of the Filipino-American community in Chicagoland. He noted that this work is especially meaningful during the Filipino-American History Month and as the Philippines and the U.S. mark the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations, with Filipino Americans helping strengthen the ties between the two countries.
The gala also marked the closing of FAHSC’s exhibits at Trickster Cultural Center. “40 Years of Stories and History” will move to the FAHSC Museum at Mana Contemporary Chicago, opening on 17 October 2026, while a portion of “Unheard Voices of Care” will move to the Asian American Resource and Cultural Center at the University of Illinois Chicago, opening to the public on 14 October 2026.
