Duran-Mortel attended the Filipino Cultural Activity 2026, “Rhythm of the Islands: From Heritage to Pop,” on 06 November 2026 at the Black Box Theatre of Walter Henri Dyett High School for the Arts.
Organized by Filipino teachers from Chicago Public Schools (CPS), the celebration traced the evolution of Filipino music, dance, and cultural traditions into contemporary expressions.
Students from the University of Rizal System joined online and were featured in an educational exchange. Filipino students shared information about their science class format, while students from Walter Henri Dyett High School for the Arts showcased their musical and dance talents.
The event brought together representatives from Chicago Public Schools, as well as principals and students from school districts across Chicago. It concluded with a dance finale featuring Filipino CPS teachers, the school principal, and students.
