After the oath-taking ceremony, Consul General Paez, together with Consul Ryan Pondoc and Cultural Officer Richard Osea, discussed with Mr. Merano possible ways of promoting Philippine cuisine. Seeing that Filipino food is not well represented internationally, Mr. Merano believes that “It is time for our food to be noticed, known, tasted, and enjoyed by the rest of the world.” Mr. Merano has, thus, agreed to partner and collaborate with the Philippine Consulate General on future projects and activities promoting Philippine cuisine and culture.

Chicago, 24 February 2022 – Mr. Victor Antonio “Vanjo” Merano of Panlasang Pinoy and
his spouse Ms. Daisy Merano took their oath of allegiance before Consul General J.
Susana V. Paez at the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago on 24 February 2022
and officially reacquired their Philippine citizenship.
Popularly known as Panlasang Pinoy (meaning: The Filipino Taste), Mr. Merano is a
Filipino-American YouTube food blogger who started in 2009 and who now boasts of 5.48
million subscribers, 7.8 million followers on Facebook, and 465 thousand followers on
Instagram. He creates cooking videos sharing his best Filipino and Asian recipes
prepared in an easy and simple manner.
