21 March 2022 – Philippine Consul General J. Susana V. Paez called on Wichita, Kansas
Mayor Brandon Whipple at the Wichita City Hall on 18 March 2022 to explore areas of
cooperation with one of the most welcoming and vibrant cities in the Midwest.
It was the first official visit of Consul General Paez, who is heading the Philippine
Consulate General in Chicago with jurisdiction over the twelve US Midwestern states,
including Kansas. Joining her at the meeting were Consul Ryan Gener and Filipino
American Association of Greater Wichita (FAAGW) officers Mses. Rose Axman, Marina
Buan and Merci Mancao.
Consul General Paez and Mayor Whipple discussed topics of mutual interest, including
the welfare of the Filipino community in Wichita, addressing anti-Asian hate crimes, and
economic cooperation.
Consul General Paez lauded Mayor Whipple for utilizing his authority and influence to
ensure that Filipinos in Wichita are safe and welcomed. She also noted the vibrant
economic relations between the Philippines and Kansas, and expressed keenness in
exploring possible synergies between the Philippines’ dynamic Information Technology –
Business Process Management (IT-BPM) sector and Wichita’s competitive advantage in
digital services.
