CONSULATE GENERAL PROVIDES MORE THAN 400 CONSULAR AND OVERSEAS VOTING REGISTRATION SERVICES IN MAPLEWOOD, MINNESOTA

CHICAGO 23 April 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago conducted a consular outreach mission and a field Overseas Voting (OV) Registration on 20 April 2024 at the Philippine Center Minnesota, 1380 Frost Ave., Maplewood, Minnesota 55109 (some 400 miles away from the Consulate General), which provided more than 400 services.

Led by Consul General J. Susana V. Paez, the Consulate General’s team rendered a total of 303 passport, dual-citizenship and other services to consular clients residing in Minnesota and other nearby states during the one-day event. In addition, the team also processed 165 OV Registration applications.

The event was conducted in partnership with the Fil-Minnesotan Association (FMA), headed by its president Mr. Eric Lleva, which assisted the outreach team through promotional and logistical support. Applicants who availed of the consular and OV services during the event expressed their appreciation to the team, since this meant that they no longer have to drive for more than six (06) hours to the Consulate General in Chicago.

During the event, Maplewood Councilmember Nikki Villavicencio called on the Consul General to discuss possible future collaborative efforts. Councilmember Villavicencio is of Filipino descent and a disability justice advocate. She oriented the Consul General on the city’s profile, home to more than 40,000 residents (40% of whom are of Asian heritage), and on its programs for the marginalized population.

The next outreach mission and field OV Registration will be held at Springfield, Missouri on 18 May 2024. Consular missions are regularly held to bring the Consulate General’s services closer to the Filipino and Filipino-American communities in US Midwestern states under the Consulate’s jurisdiction, outside of Illinois.
