PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN CHICAGO JOINS THE 2024 PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE WEEK COMMITTEE (PIWC) KICKOFF CELEBRATION 2024

The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, represented by Consul Ella Karina Mitra and Property Officer Joseph Alcantara, joined the annual Kickoff Celebration by the Philippine Independence Week Committee (PIWC) in Schiller Park, IL on 27 January 2024. The Kickoff Celebration is one of two (2) major activities organized by the PIWC every year.

On behalf of Consul General J. Susana V. Paez, Consul Mitra acknowledged the importance of the activities of the PIWC, particularly in promoting Philippine culture, heritage, and culture and fostering mutual awareness and friendship between and among the Filipino, Filipino-American, and local communities. She also looked forward to the successful staging of the PIWC Annual Gala Night in June in commemoration of Philippine Independence Day.

During the event, Consul Mitra also inducted the Officers of the Board of Trustees, the 2024 Executive Committee, and Officers of the Standing Committees. Consul Mitra congratulated the incoming PIWC officers, led by Ms. Jovy Sirianni, and wished them luck as they assume their important roles in the organization. Consul Mitra likewise expressed the Consulate’s gratitude to the outgoing officers of the Committee for their hard work and service during the past year.

The PIWC serves as an umbrella organization for several Filipino and Filipino-American associations with the goal of annually marking the anniversary of Philippine Independence. END.
