several initiatives to raise awareness about women empowerment and leadership in the Philippines and abroad.

Chicago, 24 March 2026 - Chicago PCG concluded #PurpleWednesdays on 25 March 2026 after a month-long celebration of the 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration.

On 6 March 2026, Chicago PCG launched its “80 for 80” Project to recognize the exemplary initiatives of Filipino and Filipino-American women leaders from the midwest United States in various industries and fields that raise the profile of the Philippines. The “80 for 80” Project will continue to run until July 2026 when the Philippines and the United States commemorate 80 years of diplomatic friendship.

Chicago PCG also opened priority lanes for female overseas voter registrants during the entire month of March.

This year’s sub-theme for the 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration is “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”, which reaffirms women’s leadership as a fundamental part of Filipino identity. Just like the Babaylans in pre-colonial Philippines, women today continue to play a vital role in shaping society. [END]
