CHICAGO 02 October 2023 - In celebration of the Maritime Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMo) 2023, the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago held a watch party featuring “Kalipung-Awan” (which translates to “loneliness in an isolated place”) for its personnel at the Kalayaan Hall.
A collaboration between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the People’s Television Network, “Kalipung-Awan” features the Philippine Rise, formerly known as Benham Rise, as a rich marine resource viewed from the eyes of the fisherfolk living in Catanduanes, and the Filipino scientists who dedicate their time and effort to explore this seascape for scientific advancements and discoveries that may benefit the country.
In her remarks prior to the screening, Consul General J. Susana Paez expressed her appreciation to the producers of the documentary and encouraged all personnel to be more aware of the Philippine’s unique archipelagic identity and its marine resources that continue to play a major role in the country’s efforts to attain food security and sustainable development.
The Consulate General personnel had a lively interaction following the documentary screening and participated in a mini quiz to gauge their knowledge about the Philippine archipelago. END
