18 December 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, in observance of
the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), and in support of the Philippine government's goal of protecting the human rights of women and girls, held various activities from 25 November to 12 December 2024 to raise awareness of all
forms of gender-based violence and to promote better protection for survivors and victims of violence.
To raise awareness of the advocacy campaign and its goal of a VAW-free Philippines,
the Consulate handed advocacy tote bags to women clients at the Consulate and during
its consular outreach mission in Indianapolis, Indiana. Likewise, a VAW campaign banner was prominently exhibited in the consular office and a digital banner was posted on the Consulate’s Facebook account throughout the campaign period. Consulate personnel also demonstrated solidarity with the advocacy to end VAW by wearing orange ribbons.
The Consulate capped off the advocacy campaign with an informational video on domestic violence featuring Ms. Kirsten Gackowski, a national beauty titlist and deputy sheriff. In the video, Ms. Gackowski talked about the prevalence of domestic violence in society, its effects on its victims, how to report cases of domestic violence, and the
available resources for the victims.END
