The Consulate General in Chicago, led by Consul General J. Susana V. Paez, and in coordination with PH Honorary Consul Dr. Susan Gumabao-Flores, organized a Community Dialogue on 15 March 2024 at the Philippine-American Cultural and Civic Center in Parma, Ohio.
The Dialogue served as a platform for the Consulate to brief the community on the initiatives of the Consulate and other important updates relative to frequently raised consular concerns.
In her welcome remarks Consul General Paez thanked the community for its support to the programs and activities of the Consulate. She also presented an overview of the “Bagong Pilipinas” campaign of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. The Consul General likewise called on the community to support the President’s call for transformational change and to do their share in nation building by engaging and actively working with the government as it strives to achieve genuine and sustainable development for every Filipino.
Afterwards, Consul Ella Karina Mitra presented the detailed itinerary and arrangements of the Very Important Pinoy Tour 2024. She likewise elicited the assistance of the members of the community to join the tour and to promote it to their friends and relatives.
As part of the Consulate’s activities to commemorate Women’s Month, Consul Mitra likewise talked about the Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives of the Consulate. She gave an overview of the basic GAD concepts, including the rationale for organizing and implementing programs that are important in promoting women’s equitable access to economic opportunities. She also solicited the inputs and recommendations of the community for the Consulate’s future GAD activities.
After the presentations on the 2024 VIP Tour and the Consulate’s GAD programs, Consul Melvin Almonguera briefed the community on the various consular services of the Consulate as well as other updates that are germane to their needs as Overseas Filipinos. Consul Almonguera then answered in detail the questions raised by the community, most of which pertained to Philippine Citizenship Reacquisition and Retention.
The Dialogue was the first Filipino Community meeting outside of Illinois that was organized by the Consulate this year. It was attended by around 30 leaders and members of the different Filipino Community Organizations in Ohio. END.
