PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN CHICAGO COMMEMORATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA ARBITRAL AWARD

recognizes the unwavering dedication of uniformed personnel, public servants, fisherfolk,
coastal communities and every Filipino who contributes to protecting the country’s maritime interests
06 July 2026, Chicago - Consul General Atty. Melanie Rita B. Diano led the officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago in commemorating the 10th anniversary of the South China Sea Arbitral Award. During this week’s flag raising ceremony, Consul General Diano highlighted that the Award reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to advancing unified national effort that upholds the rule of law and safeguards the country’s sovereignty, sovereign rights, jurisdiction and lawful maritime entitlements.

Guided by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the said Award, the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea remains steadfast in strengthening whole-of-government coordination, unified response and public awareness on matters concerning the West Philippine Sea.
