Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano called on Japanese Consul General Jun Yanagi on 20 February 2025 at the Consulate General of Japan in downtown Chicago.

As the new Philippine Consul General, Consul General Diano has been meeting with her counterparts to discuss her priorities - one of which is increasing engagements with ASEAN Member States and Dialogue Partners in Chicago in view of the Philippine chairmanship of ASEAN in 2026.

During their meeting, in addition to the ASEAN chairmanship next year, Consul General Diano discussed the Philippines’ bid for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council for the term 2027-2028 and its re-election to the International Maritime Organization Council, under Category C, for the term 2026-2027. The two Consuls General also talked about the various activities of the Consular Corps of Chicago and their respective consular jurisdictions.
