Chicago, 10 June 2025 - Consul General Atty. Melanie Rita B. Diano paid a courtesy call on newly elected Skokie Mayor Ann Tennes yesterday, 9 June 2025, at the Skokie Village Hall.
The Consul General highlighted the presence of a vibrant Filipino community in Skokie Illinois. She also thanked Mayor Ann Tennes for issuing a proclamation declaring May 2025 as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, which officially recognized the significant contributions and achievements of these communities to the village of Skokie.

Mayor Tennes shared her priorities in government, which include establishing programs that aim to strengthen inter-faith linkages among different communities in Skokie Illinois.
Mayor Tennes, an independent candidate, was sworn in as Mayor of Skokie IL on 21 April 2025.
Consul General Diano was accompanied by Consul Ma. Theresa Alders and Protocol Officer Martyn Orcine.
According to the Philippines’ Report to Congress for July-December 2024, there were a total of 166,788 Filipinos in Illinois, with 76,256 males and 90,532 females. Majority of these reside in Chicago, Morton Grove and Skokie. END
