THE PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN CHICAGO COMMEMORATES THE 128TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MARTYRDOM OF DR. JOSE RIZAL

The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago commemorated the 128th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal on 27 December 2024 at the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago together with officers and members of Knights of Rizal and newly sworn-in dual citizens. The event was supposed to be held at the Dr. Jose Rizal Monument in Margate Park but was instead moved indoors due to inclement weather.

This year’s event with the theme “Bagong Pilipinas: Buhay at Aral, Aming Nilalandas,” commenced with the oath-taking ceremony of the dual citizenship applicants. Consul Ryan Francis D. Gener, as Adviser – Maynilad Chapter, Knights of Rizal, delivered the opening remarks on behalf of Consul General J. Susana V. Paez, emphasizing the significance of this day in recognizing Dr. Rizal’s contribution to the Philippines. He further offered a brief background on the Knights of Rizal (KOR) in the Central United States highlighting their commitment to uphold the values and teachings of Dr. Jose Rizal.

Meanwhile, KOR Area Commander Marciano “Anong” Santos shared the significant achievements of Dr. Rizal, and urged the newly sworn dual citizens to safeguard their rights and freedoms as Filipino citizens. Commander Santos strongly encouraged those present to learn more about Dr. Rizal, his life and his work.

As the program ended, attendees stood together in the singing of the Philippine National Anthem.

The Consulate extended its gratitude to all attendees, especially to the Knights of Rizal, for their active participation in this significant occasion.END
