Consul General Paez attends 2022 Philippine Independence
Week Committee (PIWC) Kickoff Event

Chicago, 22 February 2022 – Consul General J. Susana V. Paez, together with Consul Ryan Francis D. Gener and Cultural Officer Richard P. Osea, attended the 2022 Philippine Independence Week Committee (PIWC) Kickoff Event and Induction held on 19 February 2022 at the Allegra Banquets in Schiller Park, Illinois.

During the event, the group’s newly elected officers led by Overall Chairperson Mr. Ernie Lapid took their oath of office before the Consul General. The event also featured musical and dance performances by its members

The PIWC serves as an umbrella organization for several Filipino and Filipino-American associations with the goal of annually marking the anniversary of Philippine Independence.

In her remarks, the Consul General congratulated the officers and members of the PIWC for holding the 2022 Kickoff Event, noting that the 2021 Kickoff Event was canceled due to the pandemic. She also thanked the PIWC for their active engagement with the Consulate remarking that the Consulate General can only be effective if it has the support of Filipino community organizations such as the PIWC. She also encouraged registered overseas voters to exercise their right and duty to vote this coming 10 April to 09 May 2022.
