CHICAGO 20 June 2024 - The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, led by Consul General J. Susana V. Paez, celebrated the 126th Philippine Independence Day, with the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan,” on 14 June 2024 at the Consulate’s Kalayaan Hall.
For this year’s celebration, the Consulate deemed it would be significant and meaningful to celebrate with former Filipinos who have decided to reacquire their Filipino citizenship. In her welcome remarks, Consul General Paez congratulated the dual citizenship applicants and welcomed them back as Filipino citizens. Harking to the Bagong Pilipinas campaign, she likewise encouraged those present to continue to take pride in their roots and do their part in building a better and stronger Philippines and partake of nation-building, wherever they may be.
To further inspire the Filipino citizens, all sang the Philippine national anthem after the administration of their oath. This was followed by the Independence Day video messages of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo.
After the short program, the guests were invited to partake of a simple breakfast fare, consisting of Filipino breads and desserts, along with all Consulate personnel who were present to interact with the guests.
The guests expressed appreciation to the Consul General and all the personnel for incorporating the Consulate’s Independence Day celebration with their oath-taking ceremony thereby making the occasion more special and memorable. END.
