Post respectfully informs the Department that it organized a screening of K’na the Dreamweaver at the Campus Life Building in Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, IL on 25 March 2025. The film screening, which forms part of Post’s GAD initiatives for National Women’s Month, was undertaken in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), through its Philippine Embassies Assistance Program, the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) of NIU, and the NIU Philippine Student Association.

The screening was attended by at least 40 students and some members of the Filipino community in DeKalb. The undersigned welcomed the students to the event and gave a brief overview of the film, underscoring how the film effectively preserved and showcased the authentic designs of the T’boli culture and traditions. The undersigned likewise extended her gratitude to Mr. Ivan Small, Director of the CSEAS, and Ms. Rhodalyne Gallo-Crail, Program Director for the Philippine Youth Leadership Program and Instructor of Tagalog Language and Southeast Asian Literatures, for the arrangements for the film screening.

Prior to the film screening, the undersigned visited the CSEAS and met with Center officials Director Ivan Small, Assistant Director Melissa Lenczewski, Outreach Director Rachael Skog, as well as Filipino Graduate Teaching Assistant Kay Gallo. The undersigned was accompanied by Consul Ella Karina Mitra and Cultural Officer Mary Joy Duran-Mortel.

During the meeting, the undersigned discussed ways Post and CSEAS could further expand its current Philippine Studies Program, noting their many initiatives, such as their Philippine Youth Leadership Scholars (granting full scholarship to students from the Philippines and engaging them in cooperative civic engagement projects so they can become significant community players in the future), TEAACH the Philippines (curriculum development for elementary and high schools in IL highlighting the contributions of Filipinos and the country to US history), and field research activities (to aid them in developing instructional modules on diverse topics about the Philippines).

After the meeting, the undersigned toured the Pick Museum of Anthropology, then had a lunch meeting with Dean Robert Brinkmann of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Dean expressed appreciation for the partnership between Post and NIU, sharing that NIU, being the only University in IL that has a Center for Southeast Asian Studies, makes it a priority to maintain a close relationship with ASEAN Consulates in Chicago.END
