THE PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN CHICAGO CO-HOSTS SIMBANG GABI AT ST. PADRE PIO PARISH

The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago co-hosted a Simbang Gabi at St. Padre
Pio Parish in Chicago on 20 December 2024. The celebration was in cooperation with
Pinoy Grill, Philippine Nurses’ Association of Illinois, the Devotees to Our Lady of Piat,and Pinoy Magazine.
The mass was celebrated by Fr. JoAndre Beltran together with Fr. Aloy Funtila, Fr. Tom Libera and Dcn. Ray Torralba, who inspired attendees with his heartfelt homily centered around faith, Filipino tradition, and the true spirit of the season. The undersigned and Consul Melvin C. Almoguera also participated in the offering of bread and wine.
Following the mass, a reception allowed everyone to enjoy the delightful Filipino food,
win some raffle prizes, and connect with people through dancing. In her remarks, the
undersigned expressed her gratitude to all attendees in keeping the Filipino tradition
alive.
Like any Filipino abroad, at this time of the year, those at the Consulate feel nostalgic when thinking of how Christmas is celebrated in the Philippines pointing out that some Consulate personnel left their families back home. Thus, Consulate personnel being made part of a community through the Simbang Gabi was much appreciated. The
Consul General reiterated the readiness of the Consulate to partner with the Filipino
community and to be of service to kababayans in need.
The annual Simbang Gabi in Chicago was sponsored by the archdiocese’s Asian Catholic Initiative office. This year, 55 archdiocesan parishes celebrated Simbang Gabi masses.END
