CHICAGO 14 May 2025– The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago conducted a hybrid mini-seminar on Philippine healthcare BPO on 13 May 2025 at the Consulate’s Kalayaan Hall (also livestreamed via Zoom). With the title “Bridging Filipino-American Businesses and the Philippine Healthcare BPO,” the event was attended by some 45 entrepreneurs, who are mostly Filipino-American home health agency owners and managers.

The mini-seminar’s resource person was Mr. John Duenas, a certified practitioner in healthcare BPO, who was the Executive Director of the Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines (HIMAP). He presented a backgrounder on the country’s Healthcare Information Management Services (HIMS) sub-sector and its capability in addressing the US-based companies’ pain points, such as billing documentation, compliance requirements and the like.

Mr. Benedict M. Uy, Trade Commissioner of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in New York, delivered the opening remarks. He focused on the evolution of the Philippine IT-BPO from voice work to complex knowledge services: finance and accounting, software engineering, legal research, 3D animation, game design and the HIMS. He also emphasized the government’s support to the sub-sector: the implementation of the Data Privacy Act supporting compliance requirements and the CREATE Law’s fiscal perks.
For her part, Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano, in her welcome remarks, noted that the event is the Consulate’s contribution in the attainment of the country’s vision as the go-to hub for world-class healthcare outsourcing services. Mentioning that the mini-seminar was designed to provide concrete HIMS options to US-based healthcare businesses, she likewise assured the attendees that the sub-sector presents a strategic opportunity to enhance operational efficiency, ensure compliance, and improve patient care while significantly reducing costs.
The attendees’ questions, during the open forum, revolved around savings projection, payment procedure, taxation implication and liability insurance. For more details on HIMS providers in the Philippines, healthcare establishments in the US Midwest may visit HIMAP’s website (www.himap.com).END
