28 July 2022 (Chicago) – After seven (07) years, the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago returns to South Dakota on 23 July 2022 to conduct a one-day consular outreach mission at GracePoint Wesleyan Church located at 1420 Orchard Dr, Brookings, SD 57006. The last outreach mission in South Dakota was held during the fall 2015. A consular team was scheduled to visit Brookings (some 630 miles away from the Consulate General) in 2020. However, this did not push through due to the pandemic.
Led by Consul General J. Susana V. Paez, the outreach mission provided a total of 188 passport, dual-citizenship and other services to Filipinos and Filipino-Americans residing in South Dakota and nearby States. Those who availed of the team’s services expressed appreciation for the team’s visit since this meant that they no longer had to drive for twelve (12) hours to the Consulate General in Chicago.
The event was done in partnership with the Fil-Am Association of South Dakota, headed by Ms. Maricel Olson. The group assisted the outreach team by providing promotional and logistical support. Outreach missions are regularly held to bring the Consulate’s consular services closer to Filipino and Filipino-American communities in US Midwestern states, outside of Illinois, under the Consulate’s jurisdiction. The one held in Brookings was the Consulate’s fifth for the year, following those held in Kansas, Missouri, Ohio and Michigan.
