12 October 2022- In support of the Philippine Commission on Women’s (PCW) advocacy for women’s financial literacy, the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago held a Webinar on Identity Theft and Credit Report for its officers and staff on 07 October 2022. Cognizant of the ubiquity of credit cards and online shopping, the Consulate General decided to go beyond the usual webinars on managing one’s finances and savings and focus on addressing the problems that arise from identity theft and the importance of credit report.
The webinar was conducted in partnership with CARE Chicago (Credit Abuse Resistance Education), a non-profit organization composed of volunteers from financial, bankruptcy and business services who educate on the benefits of personal financial management and the consequences of credit abuse.
Mr. William Barrett, Ms. Linda Guevarra and Mr. Benjamin Tennenbaum, the webinar’s resource persons, discussed the importance of protecting one’s personal information especially when using computers and mobile devices, or accessing online services, as well as the significance of managing one’s credit rating while living in the US or anywhere where credit cards are in use.
The recorded version of the webinar was posted on the Consulate General’s Facebook account for the benefit of its clientele in the Midwest. END
