CHICAGO, IL– The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago held a "Travel to the Philippines" seminar on 01 October 2025, at the Harold Washington Library Center's Author's Room, marking the opening of Filipino American History Month.
Organized in partnership with the Chicago Public Library and the Philippine Department of Tourism - New York, the seminar provided attendees with comprehensive information on Philippine travel destinations, cultural attractions, and tourism opportunities.
Consul Ella Karina Mitra, representing Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano, delivered the welcome remarks and emphasized tourism's vital role in driving the Philippine economy. She also noted the significance of holding the event during Filipino American History Month, celebrating the community's contributions and heritage while promoting the Philippines as a premier travel destination.
Consul Mitra also took the opportunity to discuss the Very Important Pinoy (VIP) tour, an annual initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Tourism that offers participants an immersive experience of Philippine culture and heritage.
Tourism Attaché Ms. Corazon Jorda-Apo from the Philippine Department of Tourism - New York participated virtually, providing a comprehensive overview of Philippine tourism and engaging with attendees during a question-and-answer session following the presentation.
The seminar aimed to strengthen cultural ties between the Philippines and the Midwest region while showcasing the country as a premier travel destination.
