CONSUL GENERAL PAYS COURTESY CALL ON BROOKINGS MAYOR OEPKE NIEMEYER

CHICAGO 21 October 2025- On 17 October 2025, Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano called on Brookings Mayor Oepke Niemeyer at the Brookings City & County Government Center in Brookings, South Dakota. She was accompanied by Consul Melvin Almonguera.
Consul General Diano conveyed the Philippine Government’s appreciation for the city’s efforts in ensuring the wellbeing of Filipinos who have made Brookings their home. The mayor assured the Consul General that Brookings is a peaceful and welcoming community for everyone.
She also informed Mayor Niemeyer that the Philippines and the United States will celebrate 80 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year. The mayor, for his part, pledged that the city will issue a proclamation and support activities related to the celebration. END
