CHICAGO, 17 November 2025 - Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano met with Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon on 14 November 2025 at the Office of the Secretary of State in St. Paul. The meeting served as an opportunity for both sides to reaffirm the strong people-to-people connections between the Philippines and Minnesota and to identify areas for enhanced cooperation.
During the meeting, Consul General Diano highlighted the Philippines’ robust trade relationship with the United States, particularly in the agricultural sector, and noted the potential for expanded economic engagement with Minnesota.
She also underscored the presence of more than 24,000 Filipinos in the state and briefed Secretary Simon on the consulate’s ongoing services for the community, including the overseas voter registration period commencing in December. The two officials also exchanged views on election-related initiatives and ongoing efforts to improve access for overseas voters.
Consul General Diano further shared updates on the Philippines’ preparations for the 80th anniversary of Philippines-U.S. diplomatic relations in 2026, and invited Minnesota’s participation in the planned commemorative activities.
In closing, Consul General Diano expressed her appreciation to Secretary Simon for the continued support and assistance that the Office of the Secretary of State provides to Filipinos in Minnesota.
